Expecting a child, whether it’s your first or fifth, is an exciting, if not somewhat daunting experience. There are so many things to buy, to get ready, to plan ahead and think about. That’s before you even start delving into the chaos that is choosing a name.
Whilst choosing how to decorate your little one’s new nursery is a significantly easier decision than a moniker which will stay with them forever, the reality is, it’s still one that might have you banging your head against a wall at times. If you know the gender of your child, do you want to go with a traditional colour scheme? If you’re saving the surprise for the big day, do you want to go with gender neutral tones?
There are many things to consider, and we’re here to help you start finding some light at the end of the tunnel.

Paint versus wallpaper
When it comes to decorating, one of the key considerations is how you’re going to decorate. Do you plan to paint directly onto the walls, or do you want to use wallpaper instead? You could even opt for a combination of the two.
Whether you use paint will largely depend on the quality of the walls. If they are smooth then you’re likely to end up with a good finish; however, if they are bumpy and resemble the ocean waves, you may need to re-plaster before you get the paintbrush out.
Using nursery wallpaper, on the other hand, will ensure a good finish as well as providing you with a bright looking wall.

Picking a theme
Choosing a theme for your bundle of joy’s new room can be difficult – they’ve not arrived yet, so it’s impossible to tell what their personality will be like, or which cartoon characters they’ll fall madly in love with.
Opting to create a feature wall using a nursery wallpaper mural is a great way to inject some personality into a space, without overly committing. Installing nursery mural wallpaper on the dominant feature wall will create an eye-catching centre piece, but also allow you to easily change it in a few years, should you need to.
Many of our nursery mural options are full of wonderful bright colours, perfect to amuse young children and growing toddlers. Check out our fun and funky giraffe, or our bright Lego wall which also works perfectly in a children’s playroom.
